Studying, made rewarding
aceSP is a gamified, AI-powered learning and motivation app for students. It pairs a personalised study planner with a chatbot assistant that helps organise tasks, set goals and stay on track as workloads shift.
On top of the planning sits a layer of game mechanics — XP, coins, badges, rewards and leaderboards — designed to make consistent studying feel worth doing. The goal was long-term focus and better time management, not just another to-do list.
Turning study habits into a game
The planning side is AI-driven: students describe their modules, goals and available time, and the app generates a study plan rather than asking them to build one. A chatbot assistant sits alongside it for reminders, suggestions and encouragement through the day.
The motivation side is where the design work concentrated. Completing tasks earns XP and coins, unlocks badges and rewards, and moves a student up a leaderboard. Progress is visualised on a dashboard so effort is always visible, which is what turns a study session into something that feels like it counted.

Why students stall
Procrastination, weak time management and inconsistent habits are the usual suspects, and they get worse when someone is juggling multiple modules, CCAs and a personal life. The tools students already have — calendars, to-do lists — are static. They record intentions but do nothing to sustain them.
The insight that shaped the whole app is that motivation collapses when effort feels unrewarded. Students said they wanted adaptive guidance, visible progress and positive reinforcement, not more pressure-heavy reminders. Discipline is hard to maintain without immediate feedback.
So aceSP is built around personalisation, encouragement and habit-building rather than rigid scheduling. The plan bends to the student instead of the student failing the plan.

From onboarding to streaks
The experience starts with onboarding, where students enter their modules, goals, time availability and preferences. The AI uses that to generate a personalised study plan, and keeps adapting it as workloads and deadlines change through the semester.
Day to day, students work with the chatbot planner, which surfaces reminders and suggestions and nudges them along. Completing tasks pays out XP, coins, badges and rewards, reinforcing the behaviour immediately rather than at the end of a term.
Dashboards and leaderboards close the loop. Being able to look back at visible growth reframes studying as an achievement-driven journey instead of a chore, which is the whole point of the app.
